BroadBand Security,Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan. President and CEO: Takashi Takizawa, hereafter “BBSec”) announced that the company was certified as payment card production security assessor from China Union Pay (Headquarters: Shanghai, China, hereafter “CUP”).
BBSec was certified as a payment card production security assessor from CUP on October 1, 2024, meaning that BBSec can conduct security assessment of card production process of CUP cards. Together with the CPSA (*1) certification from PCI SSC (*2), BBSec can conduct security assessment of card production for all international card brands including VISA, Master, AMEX, JCB, Discover, and China Union Pay. BBSec is one of the limited assessment companies that can assess the security of card production facilities that produce cards of several international card brands by single company. The ability of assessment by single company increases the efficiency of assessment to reduce the effort of card production facilities.

The number of credit cards issued in Japan was approximately 313.64 million as of the end of March 2024, and the number of cards issued has been on the rise in recent years. A credit card is a physical card equipped with an IC chip that has a payment function, and necessary information is written on the IC chip. Strict security measures are also required during the manufacturing process. Additionally, when making payments using a mobile device, credit information must be registered on the mobile device. Businesses involved in these processes are required to establish a system that complies with standards published by PCI SSC.
CUP is a payment network and payment service brand that utilizes the network established in 2002 by the People's Bank of China and under the leadership of the Chinese government. The network is used in 183 countries around the world including Asia Pacific countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand, and North American and European continents such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Switzerland. In Japan, UnionPay cards are issued by city banks and credit companies.
